How can we help.

Answers about results, recalls and your account. Still stuck? Email hello@getfoodchecker.com and a person will reply.

Understanding your result

What do the four results mean?

Confirmed match: the package details match a reviewed recall notice. Do not eat it, and follow the official instructions.

Possible match: the product may be affected, but a detail that decides it, such as a lot code or date, is missing. FoodChecker tells you which detail to check.

No matching recall found: nothing in the recalls we checked matches this package. This is not a guarantee that the food is safe.

Unable to determine: we could not tell, and we say why.

Does a green check mean my food is safe?

No. It means no match in the reviewed recalls FoodChecker covers at that moment. A recall can be announced later, our coverage is not complete, and food can be unsafe for reasons that are not recalls. Read the label and follow official notices.

Why does it ask for a lot code or date?

Many recalls only cover certain batches. The barcode alone often cannot tell the difference, so the official notice decides which lot or date range is affected. We ask only for the details that notice needs.

Where does the recall information come from?

Official sources: FDA, USDA FSIS and CDC notices. Every recall page links to its source. Some records are published automatically from an official notice and are marked “Auto-published, under team review” until our team reviews them. Read about our data sources and how matching works.

Does FoodChecker cover meat and poultry?

Coverage of USDA-regulated meat, poultry and egg-product recalls is more limited than FDA coverage, and no recall list is complete. Always check the official notice for your product.

Scanning and checking

The barcode will not scan.

Hold the phone about a hand’s width away, make sure the barcode is flat and well lit, and turn on the flash if needed. You can also tap “Type a code” and enter the numbers under the barcode, or search the product name.

It identified the wrong product.

A product name or photo only helps identify a package; it never confirms a recall. Tap Edit on the barcode line to correct it. If the product information itself is wrong, send us a correction with the barcode number.

What happens to my camera video?

Barcode scanning runs on your iPhone and video is not uploaded. Optional photo identification asks for your permission before an image is sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy.

Do I need an account?

No. You can browse recalls and check packages without signing in. An account lets you save packages to My Kitchen, follow recalls, and keep your list on every device.

My Kitchen, follows and alerts

What does following a recall do?

You get an email when our team publishes a reviewed update to that recall, such as new products or changed instructions. It does not monitor your pantry for recalls on its own.

Can I share my kitchen with my household?

Yes. Open My FoodChecker, then Household settings, to add family members. Everyone in the household sees the same saved packages.

Your account and data

How do I delete my account?

Open the My FoodChecker tab, choose Account settings, then Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and saved data. If you signed in with Apple, FoodChecker also revokes its Apple authorization. If you share a household, ownership transfers to another member first.

I used “Hide My Email” with Apple. Will I still get emails?

Yes, through Apple’s relay. Emails from alerts@getfoodchecker.com and hello@getfoodchecker.com will arrive at your private relay address.

How do I sign in on a new phone?

Use the same method as before: Continue with Apple, Google, or an emailed sign-in code. Your kitchen and follows come back with your account.

Reporting a problem

I found an incorrect or missing recall.

Please tell us. Use Corrections & contact or email hello@getfoodchecker.com with the recall name or link. We review reports against the official source.

I think I have a recalled product or I am sick.

Follow the official recall instructions, keep the package, and contact your healthcare provider if you feel unwell. You can also report food safety problems to the FDA or USDA. FoodChecker is not a medical or emergency service.
